CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley announced that a Cuyahoga County grand jury has returned an indictment charging Dy’mond Vaden, 32, for the homicide of George Cox, Jr., 32, who was reported missing in November 2024 and found deceased in the Huron River in May 2025.

“George Cox Jr.’s family has waited for answers, and today they are one step closer to justice. Fortunately for his family and the State of Ohio, CDP Homicide detectives are well-trained and smarter than Dy’mond Vaden thinks.”

On November 8, 2024, George Cox Jr. was reported missing by family members with his last known communication occurring on or around October 19, 2024. The Cleveland Division of Police’s (CDP) Missing Person’s Unit was assigned to the case. During the investigation, CDP officers conducted a wellness check at the residence Cox shared with his girlfriend Dy’mond Vaden near Bosworth Road and Peony Avenue in Cleveland. Officers observed a vacant apartment with little to no furniture and what appeared to be blood on the floor. Further investigation confirmed it was Cox’s blood and Vaden was no longer living at the residence.
On May 15, 2025, two individuals kayaking on the Huron River in Erie County discovered a body that had been bound with rope and wrapped in a bed sheet. They immediately contacted law enforcement, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) responded to the scene. The body was later positively identified as George Cox Jr.’s and the ECSO contacted CDP.
The investigation was conducted by the CDP’s Homicide Unit and Missing Person’s Unit with assistance from the Cleveland Homicide Initiative — which includes members from the Cleveland Division of the FBI and the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation — with additional assistance from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, the Lucas County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. Further investigation revealed Cox’s blood was found on clothing items recovered from Vaden’s residence and the bed sheet Cox was wrapped in matched sheets found in their shared residence. Additionally, DNA evidence and phone records linked her to the crime.
Dy’mond Vaden was arrested on July 21, 2025, at a new residence she shared with Emmanuel McQueen Jr., 41, by CDP. During the arrest, a firearm was recovered from the residence and both individuals were under disability at the time.
On July 25, 2025, Dy’mond Vaden was indicted on the following charges:
- Two counts of Murder (Murder A and Murder B)
- Two counts of Felonious Assault
- One count of Tampering with Evidence
- One count of Gross Abuse of a Corpse
- One count of Having Weapons Under Disability
Emmanuel McQueen Jr. was indicted on the following charge:
- One count of Having Weapons Under Disability
They will be arraigned at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center at a later date.
